My goal: Finish, edit, and publish Pause by my 17th birthday

I’m giving myself 17 months to finish writing, edit, and get Pause, my favorite thing I’ve ever written, published, in a project I’m calling 17 months of scary, fun, exciting things. Currently it’s at ~17,000 words. I’d like to have it ‘done’ on or near 50,000 Thankfully, 17,000 is a bit ahead of people doing NaNoWriMo, so I’ll hop in there, ditching my current craptastic WIP Outsiders. Sounds fun.

And that’s really all I have to say about that.

First Impressions of And Another Thing…

And Another Thing… is book 6 of Douglas Adams’ Hitchiker’s Guide To The Galaxy trilogy. And Another Thing… is written by Eoin Colfer (Pronounced “Owen”).  My first impressions (~20 Pages) on this one are going to be a little weird, as I’m reviewing it as a book, but also, how well it finishes Hitchiker’s.

I thought it was very funny, I found myself almost – almost – forgetting that Adams did not write this one. The first chapter went through a bit of a recap of the story so far, which I found nice, because it’s been a year or two since I’ve read the other 5. But I did find that it lacked the ‘can’t put it down’ quality that the first few had, but maybe that will come back after I get farther in. I also felt that Random Dent’s character was a little off in this book, but that was the only discrepancy that I noticed. I expect the remainder of the book to be a good – if not great – end to Hitchiker’s

6 things I have learned about NaNoWriMo

After attempting (and losing) NaNoWriMo two years in a row, I’ve learned a few things. Your mileage may vary.

  1. Do not, unless under emergency circumstances say “Oh, I’m about a thousand words short, but I’ll catch up tomorrow” If you start doing this, you will do this tomorrow, and the next day, and you’ll get terribly behind.
  2. write every day. Well, this kinda falls under the first one, but oh well.
  3. Do not write  all of your words for the day at one time. It’s not fun. Write a few in the morning, a few in the afternoon, and a few at night. Or something like that.
  4. Do word wars. Follow @NaNoWordSprints on twitter to get, you guessed it, word sprints directly from the NaNo staff. You can also follow other people who are doing NaNo to get word wars. There’s a great list of NaNo people on twitter here
  5. If you tell yourself that you’re going to write 5,000 words tomorrow, write 5,000 words tomorrow.
  6. The “Week 2 Blues”? More like the 12k-20k blues. I firmly believe that it’s not week two, but that point in your novel where you have no idea where you’re going.

Again, your mileage may and probably will vary.

So that’s it. Have you done NaNo? Feel free to share how it went in the comments!

And just like that, I’m behind again.

Well, I’m behind in my wordcount again. About a day and a half behind. Ah well, Tomorrow is Friday, and the day after is Saturday, so I’ll get a bunch more done. How’s everyone else doing on their wordcount?

Day 2 of novelling madness.

Well, it’s day two of NaNoWriMo, and I’m about to say words that I never thought I would say.

I am ahead on my wordcount.

Well, not by much. 3552 when I’m supposed to be at 3334. but still. progress is progress. And I have more written in two days then I wrote all last year. So I’m happy. G’nightnow.

It’s the beginning of NaNoWriMo, and I am actually almost done with the 1667 words for today. In a few minutes, I’ll finish the 74 more that I need to be done. How’s everyone else doing?

Guys, I need help.

Okay, for NaNo this year, I’m doing a Sci-Fi/Humor novel. I’m not sure I’m ready to tell you guys the plot yet, but I need some help. More focused on Sci-Fi? or more focused on Humor? Or an equal balance of both? Vote here Thanks, guys!

So I figured something out yesterday…

There are three months that are designed to help you write/finish/edit that novel you’ve always wanted to write.

NaNoWriMo: 50K words of a new story in November

NaNoFiMo: an additional 30K words onto an unfinished story in December

NaNoEdMo: 50 hours of novel editing in the month of March.

I’ll be doing this, definitely. Anyone else?

Or, if you wanna go all the way, and bust out the script for the movie, do Script Frenzy in April, 100 pages of script, for TV, Movie, Play, etc.

I just picked up a Moleskine at Barnes and Noble today. Great notebook. The specific one I got is the Red Woodstock Limited edition. Linkage here

I like it a lot, but I found it a little expensive at almost $20USD, but that’s after taxes. Anyone else use one of these? I’ll be using it for this year’s NaNoWriMo

Hey, I’m back.

haha, it’s been a while, eh?
I just finished an Instructable last night, so check it out, rate, comment, do whatever
NaNoWriMo is in three months and I have no idea what to write about [/panic]
Okay, maybe I’m planning a little too far ahead, but hey, whatever.
